Gout-Sufferers' Info

Understanding this extremely painful ailment

The Good News About Gout

Yes, it's a wild claim to say there's some good news about gout. But there is good news if you are willing to change the way you eat.

As long as you're willing to follow a balanced, nutritional food plan that cuts out the high-purine trigger foods, there's a good chance that you can go for years without experiencing another raging gout attack.

The best and safest way to be healthy would be to go Vegetarian, or very close to it. Cut out the red meats completely if you can, and get your protein from eggs and dairy foods, and the occasional small serving of grilled fish or chicken. Once or twice a week is fine.

Dedicated Vegans and animal rights sympathisers can get by without any animal products, but the rest of us like to have some meat every now and again. Otherwise life gets pretty bland... But for us gout-sufferers, bland is good. Bland means you can breathe easy. The liklihood of another gout attack diminishes all the time - and without having to live the rest of your life on some doctor's prescribed medications.

That's been my personal choice - perhaps because I'm just obstinate.

The added health bonus, is that eating a diet that's high in vegetables and fruits and low in meat can help you to lose some weight as well. Just cut right back on the sugar, flour and wheat products. They aren't good for you and they make most of us all want to eat more. That's why the food manufacturers add them most everything you buy nowadays.

So think of your health, and consult a good dietician. Wouldn't it be worth going vego if it would keep the gout away? Surely it's worth trying for a few months...

It's your call.
